A deductive inference necessitates its conclusion by having a certain form. Deductive forms fall into three types:

There are also several deductive fallacies (invalid forms of argument that are easily confused with deductions) and deductions that seem to have a valid form can in fact be invalid if they commit the fallacy of equivocation.
